News roundup: Tokyo Game Show 2013 is over, but Sengoku Basara 4 announcements continue

Sengoku Basara 4 can now be purchased at various import-friendly online stores

The first listings have started to appear for the standard and Hyakka Ryouran Tamatebako versions of Sengoku Basara 4 outside of Amazon and e-Capcom. Here's a list of the places I've found selling it so far - you can see a description of all of the versions in detail here but I'll recap to keep it all in one place.

Please note that there are likely to be store-exclusive bonuses which have yet to be revealed. These will likely be very minor things; hopefully Capcom will post more information soon as there's no guarantee they'll be shipped outside Japan.

Note (24/10/2013): I have now posted an updated list so please use that instead for the latest information!

First press includes Masamune costume DLC (hakama/wooden sword).

Capcom release the new Sengoku Basara 4 promotional video from TGS 2013

Finally! It's amazing!

It looks as though we might have been right about the different stage selection animations as the cut from the beginning implies not everyone rides a horse. Matabee sounds cool in action and Masamune's flight is better than I imagined from the descriptions.

Nagamasa looks so cool cradling Oichi in front of Katsuie. I'm excited, even though we don't know if he will appear in the actual game (rather than just a cutscene) yet.

Keiji's glove and back definitely make appearances too, as does Yoshitsugu's mikoshi.

Capcom have since updated the official website with a 'Count ZERO' version of the video including a preview of T.M.Revolution's new theme song.

New line of merchandise includes Kuroda Kanbee

The cute Sengoku Basara range of gotouchi netsuke ('regional speciality charms') is set to expand with another set being released at the end of October 2013. The new charms cost ¥578 each and rather than sticking strictly to regional dishes, this time there are famous local sites and festivals incorporated in the theme. There's the Tanabata festival for Date Masamune (Touhoku region), Shinshuu soba for Sanada Yukimura (Shinshuu region), Kaminarimon for Tokugawa Ieyasu (Kantou region), Himeji castle for Kuroda Kanbee (Kansai region), Mentaiko (fish roe) for Kuroda Kanbee (Kyuushuu region) and Osaka castle for Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Kansai region).

Strangely, Kanbee appears twice even though he's rarely included on merchandise, which makes me feel we'll be seeing more of him in the near future. The designs are cute, and you can see the older charms in this previous post.

More footage from Tokyo Game Show 2013 surfaces

Play Asia TV uploaded a short video to YouTube which has an English-speaking presenter and a little Naotora gameplay.

And someone seems to have uploaded the Matabee gameplay from the stage presentation.

Meanwhile, one fan has played with the Miku Miku Dance software to create 'The One-Eyed Dragon King flees from Matabee at full power!'...

  1. I know that their popularity pretty much ensures their position but, please CAPCOM, I want to see a glimpse of Setouchi Combi.

    1. Haha, yeah, I'm amazed at how peaceful the Setouchi fans have been given the way that there have been no hints. I hope Aniki's model gets some retouches on his face this time; he looked a little less detailed than some of the others in 3 (to me) and he deserves better.

  2. Ugh the PlayAsia guy acts like a total wanker and does not show the game off properly at all. This one is a better Naotora gameplay vid: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm21898823

The trailer is so great :D !!!
Seeing Hanbei weak and possibly dying (?!) was sad :( The scene with Ieyasu and Mitsunari headbutting each other like angry sheep cheered me up though. TM Revolution has made a lot of similar songs for Basara now but this song was still excellent. ♪

    1. After I tactfully avoided mentioning the mildly grating nature of the Naotora report, you just went and said it..! ;)

The trailer is a great rollercoaster of emotions; I love that the dramatic moments from the 2 timeline might show up in their full glory this time. I wonder how many billions of special editions of the opening song CD there will be *_*

  3. GYOBUUUUUUU!! Although he was confirmed a while back it's really nice seeing him on video (even though its just part of his carriage(?))
Wow thank you for all the ordering links!! I was starting to suffer because amiami wouldn't update their site with SB4.
I'm so tempted to order at HMV... While I want to get my preorder over with to get it off my chest, I want to see the other preorder bonuses..
Have you ever ordered at HMV before? I am getting a ton of mixed reviews..

    1. Yeah, I don't know why it's taking so long for stores to list the game, unless they're waiting for final confirmation of store-exclusive goodies (Ami Ami has had unique stuff before so it's possible). I've ordered from HMV Japan before and they've been fine, however, I've heard some anime fans mention that they sometimes don't include the store-exclusive bonuses when they ship outside Japan, so it might be a waste to order from them just for the special item until it's confirmed (if it's DLC or something there should be no problem sending it to foreigners, but if it's a poster they might not bother).

Anyway, I added a couple more links to the list this morning as Play-Asia finally added the special editions. They can even get the e-Capcom leather pouch editions so that's another option to consider!

  4. So after checking amiami I ordered at HMV just a moment ago! Thank you for your help. It's really nice having someone so informed about everything since foreign Basara game fans are so rare... AH I was so tempted to order the leather pouch editions also, but luckily I was able to restrain myself.

    1. Congratulations! Foreign Basara fans have to stick together :)

      I only have one preorder at the moment, but I'm scared I might buy more later on ;_;

    2. This is totally off topic to this post, but I didn't have a twitter so I'm leaving a comment here:
I wanted to let you know about the HMV special preorder bonus. It is Naotora's wedding dress DLC and jacket cover!

    3. Thank you! I've just confirmed this from 2ch as well so that's very interesting. I'll update the post :)

  5. Just wanted to stop by and say hello and thank you. I've been following your blog for a few weeks now, and I want to say how appreciative I am for all your translations and over-all SB4 game coverage. I was really wary about importing SB4 since I never imported a Japanese game before, but you've made things very clear ^^

That said, I managed to place a pre-order through Ami Ami for the LE with those books (my first time trying Ami Ami).

I was just wondering, do you know what the full details are about that e-Capcom special with the respective leather pouches?

It's significantly more expensive than the LE version, but all I managed to gather is that it's the game and I'm assuming a decent-quality leather pouch/satchel thing.

Is that really it? I could understand if it had all the LE items included, but no listing mentions it, so I'm kind of confused about the price @_@

    1. Thank you for your kind message ^^ I really hope you enjoy the game!

I don't quite understand the appeal of the leather pouch versions either (compared to the special box edition). All I've seen is one of the team members saying that they are really high quality pouches, and the people I know who have ordered them also ordered the box version as well.

I suppose from the perspective of an importer, there's also the advantage that buying that version guarantees you'll get the Ieyasu DLC code as well as the Masamune one since they're both listed as part of the e-Capcom sets and websites cannot be sourcing them from anywhere else...

    2. Oh, I didn't know about the DLC. I guess that incentive is probably important enough to people. I'm happy with even getting that "casual" Masamune outfit :3

(Though if they do end up putting all the DLC on the PSN store, I might cave and buy some. Vergilnari at the very least, lol)
