Today's acquisitions (17th June 2013)

I received some new shiny things in the post. There aren't many new Sengoku Basara items to buy at the moment so the blog is gradually becoming less biased...

This week all that arrived were two slightly older Miike Romuko doujinshi; one's a gorgeous illustration collection dedicated to Kojuurou with some bonus items.

Next to the doujinshi is a free Kuroko No Basuke charm from Yesasia. I had been hoping for Kise. Better luck next time?

Volume five of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on Blu-ray joins the live action Rurouni Kenshin film in the middle row. Between them is the bonus THE UNLIMITED -The Memories Hyoubu Kyousuke- disc which accompanied volume 34 of the Zettai Karen Children manga; the manga itself is packed in an attractive special edition slipcase to hold both the book and the thinpak case.

Two CDs finish off the haul this week. The first is the Kakumeiki Valvrave opening song, Preserved Roses, featuring T.M.Revolution and Mizuki Nana's collaboration. I chose the CD+DVD edition which came with a thin bonus booklet.

The second CD is Hyoubu Kyousuke's old character CD single from Zettai Karen Children which I seriously overpaid to obtain. I'm sure it will be worth every penny!

  1. Yay for Preserved Roses! My fav opening theme of the spring, seeing as I keep listening to it on my iPhone over and over. How *are* you liking Valvrave so far though? The show, much like Code Geass, seems to have a lot of differing opinions, and while I personally really like it and am impressed by the show's direction and tone, many others don't really see the value in it, so I'd be nice to see what you think seeing as you seem to be sticking with it for the long haul~

    1. I love Preserved Roses too, though the Attack On Titan opening has rather upstaged it this season in most communities! Angela's Boku Ja Nai has received quite a few listens too (I grabbed it on iTunes so there's no physical evidence).

Valvrave is probably my favourite show this season, with the caveat that region locking is keeping me away from a few titles I know I'd like (Karneval, Hataraku Maou-sama). A lot of people seem to be saying that they're watching Valvrave because it's "so bad it's good"; in my case I keep looking forward to each episode simply because I find the show fascinating. I haven't been able to predict what's coming next even once.

I also liked Code Geass throughout. And Gundam SEED, which I personally think shares quite a few themes with Valvrave - more so than any of the other Gundam shows I've watched.

Last week's episode seems to have been very divisive so the end of this week can't come soon enough!

  2. Hello! First, I want to say thank you! I'm a big Sengoku Basara fan and I rely heavily on your news updates and translation tidbits since english info on the series is very hard to come by.

If you have a moment, could you maybe do a post on the sites where you buy all your great acquisitions? I'd love to get myself a copy of that Kojuro doujinshi as well. Thanks!

    1. Good idea, I'll try to think something up (and at least be more detailed in my acquisitions posts from now on)! That particular doujinshi came from Lashinbang. Annoyingly it was the last copy they had in stock and they rarely add things to their website, so that's not much help.

I've noticed that Mandarake have been listing a large number of Miike Romuko books lately (even more so on the Japanese version of their online shop) so they are probably the most likely place to carry the newer ones. Yet Ciao, baby books are so popular that it's difficult to find some of them outside of events even if you're in Japan. I hope it turns up soon!

Thank you for your very kind words about my blog as well; it's always exciting to hear from a Sengoku Basara fan. I took a peek at your site too and your sketches are gorgeous!

    2. If you happen to still be looking for the Kojuurou book and have access to a proxy service for reshipping, Miike-san just listed it on K-Books for the first time :)

It's on their front page so I expect it will sell out quickly.

And by coincidence a copy of the other (much thinner) book in the picture went up on Mandarake today!

  3. Hello again RD! Can I can I call you that? It's hard to type out your entire webname, lol.

Sorry I'm so slow to respond. Most of the time I'm on your site, it's on an ipad and this comment box jsut doesn't like to work properly so I have to wait until I hop on a PC.

Thank you for finding that for me! I have never use a proxy service before, but now I've just signed up with Celga and placed this first order. The shipping rates horrify me but I'm curious to see how this experience turns out.

And I'm really glad you liked my work. I haven't been able to do much sketching lately as I'm really busy with work.

By the way, who is your favorite Basara character?

    1. Haha, you can call me RD if you like! I never really thought that I'd have any readers when I started posting things; some people call me Raindrops so anything is fine.

I hope that the purchasing works out and you enjoy your new doujinshi. When I happened to see the book available again so soon it felt like a huge coincidence :)

My favourite character in the whole Basara series is Kojuurou, though I love so many of them it feels almost cruel to list only one (and Masamune is a very close second).

I'm really sorry that I had to switch on authentication for comments. The blog had started to receive dozens of spam comments each week. I hope that this new setting will help!
